Tim Beckett

Background

Tim joined McLeods in 2006 and became a partner of the firm in 2017. Tim graduated from the University of Western Australia in 2005 having completed a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Arts.

Tim regularly carries out prosecutions for local governments under various legislation, including the Planning and Development Act 2005, Building Act 2011, Food Act 2008, and Dog Act 1976.

Tim has represented local governments in many jurisdictions, including the Magistrates Court, District Court, Supreme Court, Court of Appeal and State Administrative Tribunal. Tim is a frequent contributor to local government publications, writing a number of articles specifically related to enforcement issues in local government. He has also delivered seminars on local government compliance issues and lectured at Curtin University.

Experience

As part of the McLeods enforcement team, Tim specialises in:

  • Providing advice to local governments in relation to various enforcement and compliance matters.
  • Representing local governments in Magistrates Court prosecutions in relation to planning, building, health and dog offences
  • Appearing as counsel in the Supreme Court in relation to appeals against local government prosecutions.
  • Appearing as counsel in the State Administrative Tribunal in relation to reviews of statutory notices issued by local governments.
