BACKGROUND
Prior to joining McLeods Geoffrey had extensive commercial experience in retailing, property and production. This included being Administration Manager Western Australia for the Swan Hotels Group, a company with an annual turnover at that time of $40m. Geoffrey joined the firm in 1988 and has been a partner since 1996.
Geoffrey has lectured at Curtin University in Property Transactions and Rating and Property Valuation Law. He regularly liaises with the Department of Local Government and Regional Development and related government agencies on legislation and issues affecting local governments.
EXPERIENCE
Particular aspects of Geoffrey’s experience include:
• Conducting prosecutions of planning, building, health and local law offences.
• Appearing as counsel in Courts of Disputed returns, in the Civil Jurisdiction of the Magistrates Court including debt and rate recovery and in the State Administrative Tribunal.
• Specialised advice on all aspects of building control including associated matters such as disability discrimination and representing local governments in building dispute arbitrations.
• Commercial arbitration and general advice on contracts and tenders, particularly construction contracts.
• Negotiation, preparation and drafting of commercial and community leases and preparation and advice on a wide range of subdivisional and development related agreements.
