BACKGROUND
David was first admitted to legal practice in 1997 after completing articles of clerkship at Parker & Parker (now Freehills). He was then employed as a researcher and PhD candidate at Leiden University, The Netherlands in the Indonesia-Netherlands Study on Environmental Law & Administration, a bi-lateral research project examining the implementation of environmental law in Indonesia.
After finishing his PhD, on the subject of Environmental Dispute Resolution in Indonesia, David returned to legal practice at McLeods in 2004. Since that time David has continued his interest in environmental law, whilst gaining experience in the full spectrum of the firm’s local government practice including planning appeals, governance, property and commercial documentation and prosecutions. He was made an associate of the Firm in 2006 and a senior associate in 2010.
EXPERIENCE
David’s experience in legal practice includes:
• Appearance as counsel in the State Administrative Tribunal in planning and other administrative review applications
• Preparation of planning scheme amendments
• Drafting of local laws
• Providing advice in regard to contaminated sites, the clearing of native vegetation, climate change implications and other environmental and heritage matters
• Preparation of subdivisional and development related agreements
• Providing advice on all aspects of governance and statutory compliance
